QUESTIONS FROM BEGINNERS IN VOLUNTEERING: REGISTRY, FUNDS, AND DOCUMENTS
Who are volunteers and what do they do?
A volunteer is a person who, in their free time, is involved in solving or mitigating a social problem they care about. Volunteers can help in a wide range of areas, including humanitarian aid, education, animal protection, evacuation from the frontline areas, fundraising, etc. Volunteer work is voluntary and unpaid.
Is it possible to get paid for volunteering?
Volunteering is an unpaid activity. Volunteers do not receive fees, bonuses, or other remuneration for their work. Organizations that engage volunteers often reimburse expenses related to volunteer activities (e.g., transportation, accommodation, meals, or insurance). Volunteers may receive certificates, letters of appreciation, and letters of recommendation from the organizations they work with.
Is it necessary to get official permission to volunteer?
To be a volunteer, you do not need to receive permission or go through special registrations. There is no unified state registry of volunteers in Ukraine. Anyone who wants to be of service and is willing to devote their time and resources can do good deeds.
How do you officially become a volunteer and get a certificate?
In times of war, volunteers are often asked to prove their volunteering activities. To get a certificate, contact the NGO or charitable foundation you support. Local authorities are also authorized to issue certificates.
How can volunteers raise funds for aid?
If you raise large amounts of money and systematically support the military or civilians, we recommend registering your activities as a charitable foundation. If you raise funds using your own card, we encourage you to learn more about the Volunteer Registry managed by the State Tax Service.
Keep in mind that it is important to report on your fundraising activities to the public. People entrust you with their money, so it is crucial to let them know how you spent it.
