VOICES OF VOLUNTEERING – EP 8 – OLHA CHEVHAIYUK: ANIMAL VOLUNTEERING
In this war, every life in Ukraine matters. Our unity creates great strength to take care of those around us. Cats, dogs, other pets and livestock also need our care, support, and warmth. In the eighth episode of Voices of Volunteering, we take a loot at how people save small and big furry friends. Olha Chevhaniuk, Operations Director of UAnimals, tells us about animal volunteering and Ukrainians who did not abandon their pets.
How did the great war change the animal protection movement in Ukraine? How did the work of the foundation change? How have little hearts been and are being evacuated? How does the UAnimals team organize its work? How are evacuated animals further adopted? How do UAnimals volunteers and Olha herself recover and stay strong? We also discussed current events that have made the attitude of society toward animal protection more conscious, including the total occupation of the Askania-Nova nature reserve and the exploitation of animals in the Nemo Hotel. Irena Skakun, chief manager of the NGO Zoopatrul, also joined the discussion. Irena became the voice of animal volunteers who rescued abandoned pets from locked houses after the de-occupation of Bucha, Borodianka, and Irpin.
